The Airport is currently being upgraded into a regional international airport, being Nepal's second international airport. The construction work is expected to be finished in the beginning of 2018. It is planned to have a 3,000-m runway and have six international parking bays. The project will be financed by a loan and grant aid of $42.96 million and $12.75 million, respectively, from the Asian Development Bank [3]
