Tilton Northfield is a census-designated place (CDP) representing two adjacent villages in the towns of Tilton in Belknap County and Northfield in Merrimack County in the U.S. state of New Hampshire. The CDP encompasses the town centers of both Tilton and Northfield, located on either side of the Winnipesaukee River. The population was 3,075 at the 2010 census.[1]

Geography

The CDP is located at 43°26′36″N 71°35′31″W / 43.443236°N 71.591827°W / 43.443236; -71.591827 (43.443236, -71.591827).[2]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.9 square miles (7.6 km2), of which 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.3 km2), or 3.30%, is water.[1]

Demographics

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 3,231 people, 1,241 households, and 759 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,077.2 people per square mile (415.8/km2). There were 1,311 housing units at an average density of 437.1/sq mi (168.7/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96.69% White, 0.09% African American, 0.50% Native American, 0.68% Asian, 0.12% from other races, and 1.92% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.59% of the population.

There were 1,241 households out of which 32.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.5% were married couples living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.8% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 24.6% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 20.1% from 45 to 64, and 16.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.7 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $37,136, and the median income for a family was $45,804. Males had a median income of $31,535 versus $24,709 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $16,792. About 3.1% of families and 6.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.7% of those under age 18 and 9.6% of those age 65 or over.
