1943–44 Dumbarton F.C. season

Season 1943–44 was the 67th Scottish football season in which Dumbarton competed at national level and the fifth season of special wartime football during World War II.

Overview

Dumbarton had their best performance to date in the Scottish Southern League by finishing 5th out of 16 with 32 points - 18 behind champions Rangers. Indeed, for two weeks in October 1943 Dumbarton topped the league. The league results included a first ever league win over Celtic at Celtic Park.

The league results were not however matched in the cups, where Dumbarton failed to qualify from their section in the League Cup South.

In addition, Dumbarton suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Clyde in the first round of the Summer Cup.

Reserve Team

Dumbarton continued to run a Second XI during the season.

In the Scottish Second XI Cup, Dumbarton lost in the second round to St Mirren, and finished as runners-up in the Glasgow & District Reserve League (First Series).
