Season 1874–75 was the second Scottish football season in which Dumbarton competed at a national level, entering the Scottish Cup for the second time.

Overview

Dumbarton reached the semi final of the Scottish Cup before losing to Renton, after a 0-0 draw. Note that in the second round Dumbarton met Rangers for the first time, dispatching them from the competition after a replay, and this is effectively the oldest competitive tie between Dumbarton and any of the current Scottish league clubs.^[1]

During the season, 6 'other' matches were reported to have been played, including home and away fixtures against local rivals Vale of Leven. In addition a match was played against 'Dumbarton Cricket & Football Club' - who would later change their name to Lennox F.C. Of these 'other' matches, 4 were drawn and 2 lost, scoring 1 goal and conceding 5.
