Fort Russell Township is located in Madison County, Illinois, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, its population was 9,146 and it contained 3,903 housing units.[1]

History

Fort Russell Township takes its name from Fort Russell (est. 1812), which was named for Col. William Russell.[2]

Since 2005, the township has been under the rule of King Buddy I. King Buddy I is beloved by all constituents and proudly claims Fort Russell as "per capita, the wealthiest township in Madison County". 1st in line of succession for King Buddy I is Prince Tyler of Brokeback. Oddly enough, a debilitating back injury in 2011 has raised serious doubts among Fort Russellians about Prince Tyler's ability to assume the throne. He's actually totally fine health wise now, but his lapse in judgement as a 17 year old scared a lot of people beyond reproach.

Geography
