Towradgi Public School is a government funded co-educational primary school located in Fairy Meadow, a suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia.
History
Towradgi Public School, a local primary school, began operation in Carters Lane, Fairy Meadow in 1953. Between 1956-1967 children of migrants living at the Fairy Meadow Migrant Hostel, located on land close to the south of the school, formed a large percentage of the school's intake. [1] In 2015 a secure fence was installed around the school to protect the school from trespassers during the working and non-working hours of the school.
School values
Towradgi Public School has three core values: Respect, Responsibility and Safety. The school believes that these values go hand in hand. When one shows respect, one is showing responsibility which leads to safety.
Executive
The current Principal of Towradgi Public School is Cathy Broadbridge. The Deputy Principals are Brent Pritchard, Jane Lieschke and Kim Hilton.
Time Capsule
Towradgi Public School has a time capsule that was sealed 2003 and will be opened 2028.
Programs and Clubs
At the start of the 2016 school year a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program has been introduced as an educational program. It implies that all students who wish have the ability to bring their own tablet or phone to use at school. While this program is optional all other students who do not bring their own device to school, will be given a device that is being owned by the school. This program is only available from years 3-6. The school is also as NSW public school participates in Southern Stars a performing arts show held in the WIN Entertainment Centre. The school also has Parents & Citizens Association which sustains a large part of the school budget. The school has a student led coding club by the name of Happy Bytes. This club is voluntary and is run on lunch times. The school also focuses on student led learning which is a program
