Farm To Market Road 3438 or FM 3438 is a farm to market road in the U.S. state of Texas that is located on the west side of Abilene. In 1995, FM 3438 was internally redesignated to Urban Road 3438 (UR 3438) by the Texas Department of Transportation although the road is still signed as a farm to market road.

Route description

FM 3438 begins at U.S. Highway 277 near the Quail Hollow subdivision and travels to the north and passes to the east of Dyess Air Force Base before ending at Interstate 20.

Frontage Roads

A section of UR 3438 has frontage roads. They are located between Hartford St to US 84 for the nothbound lanes, and between Military Dr and US 84 on the southbound lanes. These frontage roads are a continuation of the frontage roads on eastbound US 84.

History

FM 3438 was designated in 1982 from Spur 312 in Abilene south to US 277. In 1987, it extended north to Loop 355(now BI 20-R). In 1989, it extended north to IH-20. In 1995 the Texas Department of Transportation redesignated FM 3438 from I-20 to US 277 to Urban Road 3438.

In 2008 TxDOT began reconstruction of the intersection of UR 3438 & I-20 Bus/US 84.
