Buttar Kalan is a village in Moga district of East Punjab (India)[1][2][3] located on the Moga-Barnala highway.[4]

Culture

Punjabi is the mother tongue as well as the official language of the village, predominated by the Jatt people of Buttar clan.

Religion

As of religion, the village is predominated by the Sikhs and follows Sikhism with other minorities. There are several Gurudwaras, Gurdwara Baba Kehar Singh Jee, Gurdwara Kutia Sahib, Dhillon Patti , Bhullar Patti.Towards Ramunwala Harchoka near the water course called Suaa there is an Ashram of Kalianwala. It is a kind of Dera (a place where a spiritual seeker lives is called as Dera).

History

Buttar is very old village in the area. This village had its very first secondary school in early years, loads of people from around villages used to come for their study in this village.There are many political celebrities form this village. S.Gurmeet Singh Dhillon is a respected leader and served as a sarpanch for this village.Mr karnail Singh Bhullar an eminent teacher and proponent of education in the area after having taught for years opened a very nominal fee English medium school which he donated all his resources and time to. buttar is turning into shape of large town nowadays but it had split into two parts by panchayati department and now it is known by dhillon buttar, and bhullar buttar. buttar has held tournament every year for youngsters and others. Three-fourths of the people from this village live abroad in places such as Canada, USA, Australia and many other countries.
