Wind power in Idaho

Wind turbines in Idaho

Electricity generated by wind power accounted for nearly one fifth of Idaho's in-state generated electricity in 2014.[1] Wind power in Idaho has the potential to provide all of the electricity used in the U.S. state of Idaho.

Overview

At the end of 2014, Idaho had 973 MW of wind power generating capacity installed.[2]

Idaho could potentially install 18,000 MW of wind power, capable of generating 52,000 million kWh/year according to a study by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.[4] Idaho used 23,085 million kWh in 2011, less than wind's potential for the state.[5]
