History

Van Damsel formed as an upbeat, indie project after originally being a metal band called Martagan.[7] Mentored by former Our Lady Peace drummer, Jeremy Taggart, the band released their debut EP, Say Hello To Your Mother, in 2012, and their sophomore EP, The Sunshine, Girl, in 2013.[8][9] On March 5, 2015, they released the single "Best of Everything."[10] The song debuted on the Canadian Alternative Rock charts at #34 on May 12, 2015 and at #37 on the Canadian Active Rock charts on May 26, 2015 (Mediabase).[11][12] In June 2015, the band was accepted into the 2015 Peak Performance Project. On November 19th, 2015, they took home the 3rd place prize of $50,000. Fresh off their 3rd place Peak Performance Project finish, Van Damsel released the second single from their first full length offering "Sophia" on November 20th, 2015. After securing new management and label backing, the band is now set to release their self-titled debut LP "Van Damsel", slated to be released April 22, 2016 complete with cross country tours of Canada and the US. [13] Van Damsel announced that they would be breaking up at the end of 2015, citing creative differences. [14]
