Soegijapranata Catholic University

Soegijapranata Catholic University was founded on the August 5, 1982 as a continuation of the Atma Jaya Catholic University Semarang and the Semarang Catholic Institute of Technology.

In its early days, Soegijapranata Catholic University was located at 100 Pandanaran St. Semarang and consisted of three faculties: the Faculties of Technology, Law and Economics. As the university grew and developed activities began to move to the Bendan Duwur campus. Since the mid-1990s educational activities have been entirely centered on this campus.

Currently, Soegijapranata Catholic University offers 11 undergraduate programs, a diploma program and 9 master programs. The 11 undergraduate programs include Architecture, Civil Engineering, Management, Accounting, Law, Psychology, Electrical Engineering, Food Technology, English Literature, Information Technology and Visual Communication Design. Taxation is offered as the diploma program.

The master programs include Management Science, Management, Environmental and Urban Planning, Law with either a concentration in Health or Advocacy, Psychology Science with a concentration in Psychology of Social Development and Education, Psychology Profession, Architectural Engineering concentrating on Architecture and Settlements, and Food Technology.

Soegijapranata Catholic University is an institute of higher education subservient to the name Soegijapranata as protector of the university. Mgr. Alb. Soegijapranata, SJ, was a priest and the first native archbishop, who has become a national figure and hero. Born in Surakarta on November 25, 1896, he entered the Society of Jesus Mariendaal, Grave, Netherlands, on September 27, 1920. Ordained as a priest on August 15, 1931, he was later appointed as archbishop of the Great Semarang on September 20, 1940 His struggles and concerns for education are a continuation of the attitude of his teacher, Father Frans Van Lith, SJ. One of his struggles was elevating the two oldest Catholic universities, Parahyangan Catholic University, Bandung, and Sanata Dharma University, Yogyakarta, to equal status with the state university.

Campus Location

The Soegijapranata Catholic University campus is located to the west of Jatingaleh, at a distance of ±10 km from the city center which can be reached by various types of public transportation.
