Thuringowa Central is a suburb and a commercial hub in western Townsville, Queensland. It was the central business district of the former City of Thuringowa before its amalgamation with the adjacent City of Townsville in 2008. While consisting of predominantly commercial buildings it also contains a residential subdivision. The suburb and surrounding area is often referred to by locals as The Willows - Willows Shoppingtown in Kirwan is a nearby major retail centre. One of the two Townsville Council Chambers, CityLibraries Thuringowa Central, Thuringowa Soundshell, Reading Cinemas are also located in this suburb.

History

When Thuringowa was a city most visitors did not know the location of the city's centre, so in 2004 the Thuringowa city Mayor developed the city centre masterplan to complement the Riverway project.^[1]
