Somerville School, Greater Noida is a private school in the National Capital Region, India. It is associated with the CBSE board of education. It was established in 1998 by the Lott Carey Baptist Mission.

The present principal is Dr. Mary Thomas; past principals have been Ms. Helen Harrison and Mrs. Dorothy Ann Tressler. The vice principal is Mrs.

Monisha Claudius and the headmistress is Mrs. Shefali Egbert.

The school building is equipped with a rainwater harvesting system and is earthquake resistant. The beauty of the school is the inner quadrangle which is the venue for the morning assemblies.


House system

The objective behind the house system is to inculcate a spirit of excellence amidst healthy competition amongst students of different houses there by fabricating strong individualistic traits in each student.

Each house is headed by the captain and prefects. A member of the teaching staff is in charge of a particular house. He or she is called the house master or house mistress. They lead the house with the help of the teachers belonging to the corresponding house. Inter house competitions are organized in various curricular and co-curricular activities. The house system fosters a spirit of co-operation and healthy competition. A running trophy is awarded to the House which gains maximum points in that year.

The school is host to Expressions, an inter school carnival held every November; where the best of the schools from around the National Capital Region participate to prove their mettle in the field of English, music, painting, and elocution.

The school hosts the W.C. Memorial Football Meet every year.

Senior School Sports Day February 2014

Somerville School, Greater NOIDA celebrated its sports meet on 13 February 2014 in the school grounds. Celebrating 15 glorious years of the inception, the students of the senior wing of the school presented GLOBAL MELANGE. Mr. D. K. Chetsingh, Chairman, Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India was the esteemed Chief Guest. Members of the Managing Committee, Principals, Vice Principals, Teacher Representatives from sister schools and various schools of NOIDA and Greater NOIDA graced the event. The honorable guests witnessed cultures of various countries of the world. The students presented the rich Indian cultural heritage in welcoming the guests. From the east to the west of the globe; from the traditional Korean Fan Drill to the Scottish Isles, the African War Dance and to the west with the Majorettes, the students stole the attention and applause of all present. Students of Class X presented the Nipponnese March which was highly appreciated for its discipline, synchronization and coordination. Class VIII won the prize for their colourful Korean Fan Dance. It was a beautiful and outstanding performance. Various track and field events were also held that day. Resonance 2014 was a spectacular show and the students looked stunning in their colourful attires.

Junior School Annual Day

The Junior School celebrated its annual day on 31.10.2013 and 1.11.13 at the Nelson Memorial Auditorium. Students of classes I-III participated in the musical- THE WIZARD OF OZ. Mr. Thomas T.Roy graced the occasion as the Guest of honour . Member of the Managing Committee, Lott Carey Baptist Mission were also present with the dignitaries, principals and vice principals of sister schools honoured us with their presence too. All the students participated enthusiastically and danced to live music by the Western Music Choir of the junior school.The play was appreciated and admired by the distinguished guests and parents alike.

A DAY WITH OSCAR WILDE was celebrated on 1.11.13. Mr. D.K.Chetsingh, President Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India was our guest of honour.

Member of the Managing Committee ,Lott Carey Baptist Mission were also present. Dignitaries, principals and vice principals of sister schools honoured us with their presence too. All the students participated enthusiastically and danced to live music by the Western Music Choir of the junior school.

Students from classes III BC - V participated in the plays written by the author. The most remarkable work of Wilde, Happy Prince, The Selfish Giant and The Star child were staged. The swallow dance was highly appreciated by the distinguished audience. The Annual Junior School Sports Day was held on 28 February 2013. All the students from classes 1 to V participated in the various drills & P.T. display. The students of class V marched smartly in their contingents. The parents were very happy to see their children participate and perform in their colourful costumes. There were many interesting races for the students and the prizes were distributed by the Principal Dr. Mary Thomas.

Inter Somerville Football Tournament

In continuation of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the L.C.B.M. in India, an inter Somerville Football Tournament was organised by the Mission. The three Somerville sister schools participated in this tournament and the trophy was lifted by the students of Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave.

Expressions

The objective behind organizing ‘Expressions’, the cultural festival is to increase the social and literary interaction among students from different environs, with different opinions, but with the same motive of quenching their thirst for knowledge. Expressions is one such carnival, where a variety of competitions are held, ranging from debate and poetry recitation to dance and music and wherein several schools from all over the NCR participated. Expressions’ 2012 was inaugurated by Mrs. D. A. Tressler, Director-Somerville Schools, LCBM in India and Manager, Somerville School, Greater NOIDA. It commenced with the English Debate followed by English Poetry Recitation. Two new categories of competitions were added for the primary children. These were ‘Spell Bee & Brain Teasers’. Expressions 2013 saw the overall championship trophy being collected by Somerville School, NOIDA to enthusiastic applause.

W C Somerville Memorial Football Tournament

The 10th W.C. Somerville Football Tournament was hosted to give an opportunity to the footballers of schools in the vicinity of Greater NOIDA to display their sportsman spirit, energy and skills through the game of football. Various schools participated in this football tournament. It was a wonderful experience in which young people displayed a great deal of energy while playing to win the trophy. This year the W.C. Somerville Rolling Trophy was won by Somerville School, Greater NOIDA and the Runners up Trophy was secured by Somerville School, Vasundhara Enclave.

CBSE Results 2014

Class X

In Class X, 5 students got 10 CGPA by securing A1 grade in all the subjects.

Class XII

In Class XII, the school topper secured 96.8%, 2nd Position secured 96.6% and 3rd position secured 95.6%.

In Commerce Stream, the toppers secured 96.6%.

In Science Stream, the topper secured 96.8%.

In Humanities Stream, the topper secured 94.6%.

Lott Carey Baptist Mission

The Lott Carey Baptist Mission in India, affiliated to the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Mission Convention, USA, has been working among the Leprosy patients in and around Delhi by providing medical relief, training them for jobs and providing education to their children from 1947 onwards. The Society was registered in November 1962. Over the years, these services have also been extended to other under-privileged people of the area. The Mission has also established and administers schools to provide education to children regardless of their caste, creed or religion. The Headquarters of the Mission in India is at 5, Ansari road, Daryaganj, New Delhi- 110 002.
