San Juan Diego Catholic High School is a private, Roman Catholic high school in Austin, Texas. It is located in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Austin.

Mission statement

San Juan Diego Catholic High School provides highly motivated students the opportunity to earn a Catholic, college preparatory education, enriched by participation in a corporate work study program.[1]

Background

Shortly after arriving in Austin in June 2000, Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond sought to advance the Church’s prophetic mission by increasing the number of Catholic school opportunities in Central Texas. He sought to make quality, Catholic, college preparatory education available to young people who otherwise might not have access to it.[2]

In August 2002, only weeks after the canonization of St. Juan Diego, the indigenous man to whom Our Lady of Guadalupe appeared, Archbishop Gregory M. Aymond opened San Juan Diego Catholic High School. San Juan Diego is modeled after Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago.

Each student at San Juan Diego works toward a Distinguished Achievement diploma,[3] which includes 30 credits and 100 hours of community service. The courses required for this diploma prepare students well for their next academic milestone: college.

Corporate Work Study Program

Through the innovative Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP), San Juan Diego Catholic High School makes quality, Catholic, college-preparatory education available to students who otherwise might not have access to it. Students gain valuable "real world" experience, while at the same time offsetting the cost of their education. Moreover, students receive training prior to entering the workplace, and receive mentoring from corporate professionals.[4]

All students participate in the program, working five full days per month in entry-level positions at local businesses. Class schedules are designed such that no student ever misses class due to work.[4]

A full list of the companies that sponsor San Juan Diego's Corporate Work Study Program is available on the school's website.[4]

Location

The school is located on the campus of San Jose Catholic Church in central Austin, near the intersection of Oltorf and South First Streets.[5]
