Sam Crane (actor)

Sam Crane (born 1979) is an English actor who has mainly worked in theatre. He is best known for playing Winston Smith in Headlong's production of 1984 in the West End[1] and Fred Walters in the BBC's six-part drama series Desperate Romantics.[2] In 2015 he will play the eponymous castrato in Claire van Kampen’s "Farinelli and the King" opposite Mark Rylance[3]

Crane is the son of playwright Richard Crane and theatre director Faynia Williams. He studied at Oxford University, and LAMDA. He is married to filmmaker Pinny Grylls and they have a young son and daughter.[4]
