Games

R-Types

R-Types is based specifically on the arcade versions, and is a retail PlayStation product, released in Japan on February 5, 1998. Later released in Europe around September, 1998 and in North America on February 2, 1999. Later on, it was released through the PlayStation Network, in Japan on December 21, 2006 and in North America on April 24, 2008.

R-Type DX

R-Type DX is a game released for the Game Boy Color. It is based on the prior Game Boy ports of R-Type and R-Type II and contains all the changes made to these games for their Game Boy iterations. When played in a Game Boy Color or Game Boy Advance, the player has a choice between playing the original monochrome Game Boy ports of either game or playing an enhanced color version of either. The player can also choose a "DX mode", which combines both games into one long story mode. When played in an original Game Boy or Game Boy Pocket, only the monochrome versions of the either games are available.

R-Type Dimensions

R-Type Dimensions is based on the arcade versions, now featuring the ability to change between the original graphics and a newly created set, in real time. This is a product for the Xbox 360's Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation 3's PlayStation Network.

IGN editor Cam Shea ranked it 10th on his top 10 list of Xbox Live Arcade games. He praised Dimensions for its challenge and the ability to switch between current and classic visuals, but felt that the price may be too high for the product.[1]
