Ndriçim Shtubina (born 18 March 1987 in Shkodër) is an Albanian football player who currently plays as a Midfielder for Vllaznia Shkodër in the Albanian Superliga, where he is also the club captain.[1][2][3]

Club career

Vllaznia Shkodër

He started his youth career at Vllaznia Shkodër. He will be long remembered for his European goal scored on 9 July 2009 against Irish side Sligo Rovers, in the match valid for 2009–10 UEFA Europa League First qualifying round, where Shtubina played as a starter and scored the match opening goal in the 42nd minute, an equalizing goal in the 84th minute of the second half and finished the game in the 1–1 draw.[4]

In June 2012, Shtubina signed with Vllaznia, returning to Shkodër after one a year absence.[5] He came from Flamurtari Vlorë along with his teammate Halim Begaj.[6] During an interview, Shtubia said that he returned to Vllaznia with a goal to win the league, but however, Vllaznia finished in 6th place, and failed to qualify in European competitions.

2012–13 season

During the 2012–13, Shtubina played 17 out of 26 league matches, in addition 3 cup matches, where Vllaznia was eliminated in the second round to Shkumbini Peqin.[7] He appeared as a second-half substitute in team's opening league match against Skënderbeu Korçë, which finished in a 1–3 home loss.[8] In November 2012, he suffered a knee injury that kept him sidelined until January 2013.[9] He returned to the football field on 8 February by appearing as a substitute in the last moments of the 1–0 away win against Skënderbeu Korçë, replacing the goalscorer Arsen Hajdari.[10]

On 4 May, Shtubina scored his first goal of the season during the 3–1 league loss to his former club Flamurtari Vlorë, which was his only strike during the 2012–13 season.[11] The club finished the season in a disappointing sixth place, remaining out of European competitions once again. Following the end of the season, due to negative results, Shtubina said that there is a possibility for him to leave the club.[12]

2013–14 season

Shtubina opened his seventh season as a Vllaznia Shkodër player by playing full-90 minutes in a 0–1 home loss to Flamurtari Vlorë in team's first league match of 2013–14 season.[13] On 18 September, he opened his scoring account by scoring the first goal of the 2–0 win against Tirana in the Albanian derby.[14] He scored his second league goal in the matchday 8 against Kastrioti Krujë on 20 October, leading the team into a 2–1 home success.[15] A week later, he scored the winner against the newly promoted side Partizani Tirana for another three important points.[16]

Shtubina started 2014 by scoring a last-minute equalizer against Teuta Durrës, earninghis side a point at home.[17] He continued with his solid appearances by netting the second of a 2–0 away win against Laçi on 23 March; the goal came from a solo run.[18] Seven days later, he scored the lone goal of the 1–0 home win against Skënderbeu Korçë, which was his sixth of the season, equaling his personal best set in 2010–11 season.[19] A minute after scoring, he received a yellow card meaning that he would miss the next league match against Lushnja.[20] Shtubina returned in action on 19 April and set his mark by scoring the third goal of the 4–2 away win over Kastrioti Krujë, setting a new personal best.[21] It was the third match in a row that he score a goal. Shtubina ended the season with 7 goals and 30 appearances throughout the season, with Vllaznia who managed to stay in Albanian Superliga for another season.

2014–15 season

During summer transfer window, many rumors circulating for a possible departure of Shtubina from the club, as Partizani Tirana and Teuta Durrës were set to acquire his services.[22][23] However, he extented his contract with the club in July 2014,[24] and was named club captain for 2014–15 season.[3]

He played his first match of the season in team's opening league match 2014–15 season against Kukësi, featuring in the entire match.[25] Shtubina scored his first goal of the season on 11 September 2014 from a direct corner-kick in a 1–1 draw against Tirana in the Albanian derby which was infamously marred by crowd trouble which saw 13 people arrested and both clubs' fans receiving lengthy stadium bans.[26][27][28] After that, on 20 September 2014, he scored a brace in a 2–0 win over Apolonia Fier, taking his tally up to three league goals.[29] In the post-match interview, Shtubina dedicated his goals to the club's fans.[30]

2015–16 season

Shtbuina opened the season by playing full-90 minutes in team's opening league match against Skënderbeu Korçë on 9 September 2015 which finished in a 1–0 defeat.[31] He scored his first goal of the season on 17 October in Vllaznia Shkodër's 3–0 defeat of Tërbuni Pukë, netting in the first minute of the match.[32] On 23 December, in the last match of 2015, Shtubina scored in the second minute of the match against fellow relegation strugglers Bylis Ballsh in an eventual 3–2 home win.[33]

With the arrival of the new coach Armando Cungu, Shtubina continued to keep his place in the starting lineup, playing five matches between January and February.[34] On 13 March, he scored the second in a 3–1 win over rivals Tirana at Reshit Rusi Stadium.[35] On 30 April, in the 3–2 away defeat to Laçi in the matchday 32,[36] Shtubina made his 200th appearance for Vllaznia Shkodër.[37] On 8 May, he scored his sixth league goal of the season in the 2–0 home win against Tërbuni Pukë, giving his team three crucial points in their bid to escape relegation.[38]

Shtubina ended his ninth season as a Vllaznia Shkodër player by playing 36 matches in all competitions, including 33 in league, as the team managed to secure a spot in Albanian Superliga for the next season.[39] He also scored six league goals, being the team top goalscorer along with Eraldo Çinari.[40]

2016–17 season

On 10 June 2016, Shtubina signed a new two-year deal with the club, keeping him at the club until June 2018.[41]
