Dominic Francis Perrottet MP, an Australian politician, is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing for the Liberal Party of Australia the seat of Hawkesbury since 2015 and before that, the seat of Castle Hill between 2011 and 2015.[2] In April 2015, Perrottet was appointed as Minister for Finance, Services and Property in the Second Baird ministry;[3] having served as the Minister for Finance and Services in the First Baird ministry.[4]
Early life and background
Perottet was born in 1983, and raised in West Pennant Hills, Sydney.[5] He is the third eldest [6] of 12 children. His father, John Perottet, works for the World Bank as Global Lead for Tourism at IFC - International Finance Corporation in Washington DC.
Dominic Perottet was educated at Redfield College in Dural and Oakhill College in Castle Hill. Perrottet was active in student politics whilst studying commerce and law at Sydney University and campaigned for voluntary student unionism.[7] He went on to work as a commercial lawyer for Henry Davis York in the areas of banking restructuring and insolvency law.[5]
Perrottet was the President of the NSW Young Liberals Movement in 2005 and served on the NSW State Executive of the Liberal Party from 2008–2011.
Political career
Perrottet won preselection in November 2010 with the backing of right wing powerbroker David Clarke.[8] Clarke battled against Alex Hawke, Federal Member for Mitchell, to gain control of preselections.[9][10]
He was elected to the very safe Liberal seat with a swing of 12.2 per cent and won the seat with 80.8 per cent of the vote on a two party preferred basis following the resignation of previous Liberal MP Michael Richardson.[11] His main opponent was Ryan Tracey, representing Labor.
In April 2014 it was reported that Perrottet was endorsed as the Liberal candidate for the Electoral district of Hawkesbury at the 2015 state election;[12] and he was elected with 68 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.[13]
Due to the resignation of Barry O'Farrell as Premier,[14] and the subsequent ministerial reshuffle by Mike Baird, the new Liberal Leader,[4] in April 2014 Perrottet was appointed as Minister for Finance and Services.[15][16][2] Following the 2015 state election, Perrottet was appointed as Minister for Finance, Services and Property in the Second Baird ministry.[3]
