Digeponics

Digeponics is the cultivation of plants using digester effluent (called digestate) as nutrient input. Digestate is the liquid and/or solid residue after anaerobic digestion of organic waste into biogas. Digeponics is a term proposed and detailed in an scientific article: Waste Management 56 (2016) 466–476 by Ketil Stoknes and co-workers. It is related to Hydroponics, Aquaponics and Vermiponics. Key elements are: Green waste compost as growing medium, vermicompost from digestate, circulation of water through an aerated biofilter, use of active compost earthworms in the circulation and natural aerobic compost microbes. .
