Bussana is an Italian village and hamlet (frazione) of the municipality of Sanremo in the Province of Imperia, Liguria. As of 2009 its population was of 74.[1]

History

See also: Bussana Vecchia

The toponym was referred, until 1887, to the old town, partly destroyed and abandoned after an earthquake.[2] To distinguish the new village from the old one of Bussana Vecchia, Bussana is also named Bussana Nuova (New Bussana). It was an autonomous comune until April 1928, when it was absorbed by Sanremo municipality.[3]

A Roman villa is located near the village, by the estuary of river Armea.[4]

Geography

The village is located 6 km in the east of Sanremo and 2 in the west of Arma di Taggia. It is 3 km from Bussana Vecchia, 5 from Taggia, and 19 from Imperia.

The southern part, known as Bussana Mare (Bussana Sea), is extended by the Tyrrhenian Coast. Near the village is located the Capo dell'Arma Lighthouse.
