Birch Mountains Wildland is located within the Birch Mountains in Alberta. It contains one of Canada's only free-roaming wood bison herds outside of Wood Buffalo National Park.

The area has a very diverse ecosystem that supports lake trout, lake whitefish, cisco, Arctic grayling, walleye and yellow perch; osprey and bald eagles and many more. The rare, spore-bearing plant quillwort was discovered in the area in 2004.^[1][2]

The Wildland contains 357,066.96 acres. It is accessible only by fly-in during the summer, and by snowmobile during the winter.^[3] There are no developed camping facilities in the park, except for two commercial backcountry lodges: Namur Lake Lodge and Island Lake Lodge. Hiking, fishing, camping, hunting, ice fishing, and on-site OHV riding are welcome.
