Baraut is a small city and municipal board in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, India, just 55 kilometres (34 mi) from the national capital and falling within the National Capital Region. Previously, Baraut was within Meerut district until Baghpat district was split off from Meerut.
Geography
Baraut is located at 29°36′N 77°10′E / 29.6°N 77.16°E, covering an area of 10.36 square kilometres (4.00 sq mi) and lying between the Ganga and Yamuna river plains. Its average elevation is 231 m (758 feet). Baraut is served by two state highways, SH-57 & SH-82.
Demographics
According to the 2011 India census, urban Baraut has an estimated population of 150,992, of which 80,570 (53%) are male and 70,422 (47%) are female. Urban Baraut has an average literacy rate of 65%, which is lower than the national average of 74%, with 72% of males and 57% of females being literate. The census also showed that 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.[1]
Education
Baraut city is a major centre of education.
Jat College, on Link Road, is managed by Jat Shiksha Sabha, a registered society established in 1920. First established as a high school in 1917, in 1949 it became an undergraduate—and in 1956, a graduate—college giving instruction in agriculture, arts, science, and education.
DIET (District Institute for Education and Training) was established by the education deptartment of Uttar Pradesh in Baraut city, at Barka Road.
Digambar Jain College, started by the Gangaram Kishorilal Jain family. In Baraut city all the courses are available up to the research level especially in the field of agriculture. Jain Polytechnic is known for its technical education.
