Bandar bin Khalid (born 1965) is a Saudi businessman and a member of House of Saud. He is chairman of Al Watan, a reformist newspaper.

Early life

Bandar bin Khalid was born in 1965.[1] He is the eldest son of Khalid bin Faisal Al Saud and the brother of Saud bin Khalid and Sultan bin Khalid. Their mother is Al Anoud bint Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud.[2][3]

Education

Bandar bin Khalid received a computer science degree from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Dhahran in 1988.[4] He then continued his education, receiving a master of arts degree in international business management from the Fletcher School of Tufts University in 2005.[1][5] He also attended several courses in the field of executive management, and has more than “1000” flight hours.[6]

Career

Prince Bandar is a businessman. He has many varied positions in several organizations. The most known of his business activities is Al Watan in Saudi Arabia, a daily paper known for its progressive views.[7] Bandar bin Khalid is the chairman of the board of directors of Assir Foundation for publishing and printing, publisher of Al Watan newspaper.[8] He is also the chairman of Investments Enterprises, a holding company having many subsidiaries dealing with varied sectors.[4]

He is co-founder and a member of the board of trustees of the Arab Thought Foundation, which works to promote better understanding between Arabs and the Western world. He is also deputy managing director of the King Faisal Foundation, an internationally active charitable foundation supporting research, education and social welfare.[5] He is also founder and chairman of the board of directors of Alttmir Company Ltd. since 1995.[6] His another business activity was related to Sama Airlines of which he is the founder and the chairman. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Arab House for printing and publishing, and Harvey Nichols Riyadh. Additionally, he is a managing director and board member of the Saudi Aviation Club.[6][9]

Bandar bin Khalid was appointed vice president of Painting and Patronage in 2010.[10] Bandar is Alfaisal University's chief executive and Effat University's board member.[11][12] Additionally, he is the general president of the Grand Mosque's affairs.[13]

Personal life

Prince Bandar is married and has four children, Khalid, Loulouwah, Faisal and Haya.[14] His wife is Nouf bint Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Saud.[14]

Awards

Bandar bin Khalid was selected as one of 238 Young Global Leaders in 2005, chosen from 8000 candidates. The Young Global Leaders met in June 2005 at an inaugural summit in Zermatt, Switzerland, to discuss the development of global strategies and concrete actions "in order to advance towards a better world in the year 2020".[15]
