Alexander Nelson Hood, 4th Viscount Bridport, 7th Duke of Bronte (born 17 March 1948), known as Alex Bridport, is a British-born investment banker.

Education

Hood is the son of Rowland Hood, 3rd Viscount Bridport and Sheila Jeanne Agatha van Meurs. He was educated at Eton College and the Sorbonne. He is a descendant of William Nelson, 1st Earl Nelson, elder brother of Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronté. He succeeded his father in the viscountcy in 1969.

Career

After the Sorbonne, Bridport joined the investment company Kleinwort Benson based in London, before going on to Chase Manhattan Bank and with it moved to Geneva in 1985 to be General Manager of Investment Banking. He was appointed Managing Director of Shearson Lehman Brothers, New York City, in 1988. He set up Bridport & Cie S.A. with Thomas Bartholdi in 1991; they both remain managing partners. Count Luca Rinaldo Contardo Padulli is a current Director at Bridport & Cie S.A. which is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.^[1]

Family

Lord Bridport married Linda Jacqueline Paravicini on 5 January 1972. They had a son, the Honourable Peregrine Alexander Nelson Hood (b. 1974). Lord and Lady Bridport were divorced in 1979. Lady Bridport married, secondly, Michael Howard, 21st Earl of Suffolk, son of the Second World War hero Charles Howard, 20th Earl of Suffolk, who was awarded the George Cross.

Lord Bridport married secondly Nina Lincoln (widow of Formula 1 Driver Jochen Rindt) on 5 December 1979.^[2] They had a son, the Honourable Anthony Nelson Hood (b. 1983), and were divorced in 1999.

Lord Bridport's heir apparent is his eldest son, the Hon. Peregrine Alexander Nelson Hood (b. 1974), who is married to Iranian-American Serena Nikkhah (b. 1983); she is currently the Executive Fashion Editor at British Vogue. They married at the church of St John the Baptist, Charlton Park, Malmesbury on 8 June 2013: guests included Princess Michael of Kent, Tom Parker Bowles, and Pippa Middleton.^[3]
