The 2016–17 Regionalliga is the ninth season of the Regionalliga, the fifth under the new format, as the fourth tier of the German football league system.

Regionalliga Nord

The season started on 31 July 2016.[1] Lupo Martini Wolfsburg was promoted from the 2015–16 Niedersachsenliga,[2] so were 2015–16 Schleswig-Holstein-Liga champions SV Eichede[3] and 2015–16 Niedersachsenliga runners-up 1. FC Germania Egestorf/Langreder as promotion round runners-up.

Regionalliga Nordost

The Regionalliga Nordost started on 31 July 2016.[5] The fixtures were published on 29 June 2016.[6] FC Energie Cottbus was relegated from the 2015–16 3. Liga.[7] 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig was promoted from the NOFV-Oberliga Süd and FSV Union Fürstenwalde was promoted from the NOFV-Oberliga Nord.[8][9]

Regionalliga West

The season started on 29 July 2016.[12] The fixtures were published on 5 July 2016.[13] Wuppertaler SV was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Niederrhein, Sportfreunde Siegen and TSG Sprockhövel was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Westfalen and Bonner SC was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Mittelrhein.[14][15][16][17]

Regionalliga Südwest

The Regionalliga Südwest started on 5 August 2016.[19] The fixtures were published on 5 July 2016.[20] VfB Stuttgart II and Stuttgarter Kickers was relegated from the 2015–16 3. Liga.[21] TuS Koblenz was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Rheinland-Pfalz/Saar, Teutonia Watzenborn-Steinberg was promoted from the 2015–16 Hessenliga and SSV Ulm 1846 was promoted from the 2015–16 Oberliga Baden-Württemberg.[22][23][24] The runners-up of the other Oberligas had a playoff round which was won by FC Nöttingen.[25]

Regionalliga Bayern

The fixtures were published on 20 June 2016.[29] VfR Garching was promoted from the Bayernliga Süd and SV Seligenporten was promoted from the Bayernliga Nord.[30][31] SpVgg Bayern Hof was promoted as they beat SV Viktoria Aschaffenburg in the 2015–16 Bayernliga promotion playoff.[32]
