Zulfiqar Jabbar Khan - Xulfi (Urdu: ذوالفقار جبار خان; 28 October 1980), commonly known as Xulfi, is a Pakistani singer-songwriter and music producer.[1] Starting his career in 1994, Xulfi has established himself as one of the most prolific artists in the Pakistan music industry, and is the recipient of multiple awards in Pakistan, including the ARY Music Award and the Indus Music Award. He was also nominated for the Lux Style Awards, the The Musik Awards and for the Best Debut Singer at the Radio Mirchi Awards 2009[2] for the song Yeh Pal from the movie Aasma. He was also nominated for the Airtel Radio Mirchi Awards in India.

Xulfi's current project is Nescafe Basement,[3] for which he serves as producer and mentor. The show won the award for Best Music Show at the Express Tribune Awards Best in Media Innovation, and has also won an award at the PAS Awards.[4] He was also nominated for the Airtel Radio Mirchi Awards in India.

Life and career

Xulfi was the composer, music producer, guitarist for Entity Paradigm (EP). Entity Paradigm was formed by Xulfi between 1996 and 1999 but was officially announced as a band only in 2000. EP disbanded in 2007 and got back together again, this time without Xulfi, but separated again within a year.[5]

Xulfi is music producer, songwriter, lead guitarist for his band Call. He blames the lack of proper recognition of music as a separate 'industry', as the reason for it achieving only mediocre success.[6]

Xulfi has also been involved in a number of Bollywood projects as composer, lyricist and producer. Some of his well-known works include Laaree Chooti from Ek Chalis Ki Last Local in 2007, Yeh Pal from Aasma in 2009, Dhadke Jiya from Aalo Chaat[7] in 2009, and Kuch Aisa, Kuch Aisa (Sad Version) and Reh Jaane Do from Aao Wish Karein[8] in 2009.

Xulfi has produced, recorded, engineered, mixed and mastered music albums for Call's Jilawatan and Dhoom albums, Entity Paradigm's album Irtiqa, Jal's album Aadat,[9] Roxen's album Rozen-e-Deewaar, Inteha's album Daastaan,[10] and Ankur Tewari's album Jannat.[11]

Nescafe Basement has received very positive critical reviews ever since its inception. For example, John Newman, an internationally renowned artist, expressed his appreciation for one of his songs, Love Me Again, which was covered on the show by an all-girls band.[12] Roxette also shared Nescafe Basement's cover of their song 'She's got the look' [13] John Newman tweeted the Nescafe Basement cover version of the song Love me again and called it ‘dope’. [14]
