Zeruah

Zeruah (Hebrew: צרועה TsROo`aH Leper) was the mother[1] of Jeroboam / ירבעם, (first king of the northern kingdom of Israel, the ten tribes which revolted against Rehaboam, after his father Solomon's death).

"Jeroboam was the son of Nebat / נבט, a member of the Tribe of Ephraim of Zereda, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow (1 Kings 11:26)"

Notes

  1. An alternate interpretation of the English text, claims Zeruah was the grandmother of Jeroboam, being the mother of Nebat. But this is not supported by the Hebrew source. Additionally throughout the Books of Kings, it is standard practice to also list the names of kings' mothers, on the occasion of the beginning of their reign.
