Wynonna Earp is a Canadian-American supernatural Western horror television series. Developed by Emily Andras,^[1] it is based on the comic book series by Beau Smith. Wynonna Earp premiered on Syfy on April 1, 2016.^[2]

On July 23, 2016, it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con during the Wynonna Earp panel that the series had been renewed for a twelve-episode second season.^[3]^[4]

Development and production

Syfy acquired the U.S. rights to Wynonna Earp from SEVEN24 Films and IDW Entertainment in July 2015. A 13-episode order was placed,^[5] with production to start in September 2015.^[6]

Filming of Season 1 took place from September 14, 2015, to February 12, 2016, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.^[7]^[8] Didsbury, Alberta, was used as the location for the series' small town of Purgatory.^[9]^[10]

Broadcast

The series premiered in Canada on the independent station CHCH-DT on April 4, 2016.^[11] It premiered in the United Kingdom on Spike on July 29, 2016.^[12]

Reception

Review aggreation website Rotten Tomatoes gives an 86% approval rating with an average rating of 6.2/10 based on reviews from 7 critics.^[13] Metacritic gives the series an average score of 68 out of 100 based on reviews from 4 critics.^[14]
