Wright (postcode: 2611) is a suburb currently under development in the Molonglo Valley district of Canberra, located within the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. It is named in honour of Judith Wright, a poet, environmentalist and Aboriginal land rights advocate.[2]

Location and urban structure

Construction of the first house in Wright was completed in June 2012.[3]

Political representation

Wright is part of the federal electorate of Canberra, and is represented in the House of Representatives by Gai Brodtmann a member of the Labor Party.[4]

Wright is represented in the Senate by Kate Lundy (Labor) and Zed Seselja (Liberal).[4]

The ACT has a unicameral government system, where the Legislative Assembly performs both the equivalent roles of a State parliament and a shire or city council. Wright is located in the ACT electorate of Molonglo; the largest of three electorates in the ACT, and is represented by seven members: Andrew Barr, Simon Corbell, Steve Doszpot, Katy Gallagher, Jeremy Hanson, Giulia Jones and Shane Rattenbury.[5]

Wright did not have a separate geographical identifier allocated on the date of the 2011 census, and was grouped with the Weston Creek-Stromlo statistical sub-division. In this division, there was a population of 17, with 10 males and seven females. The ABS recorded nine dwellings, with a median weekly household income of A$2,250. Peculiarly, an unusually high number of motor vehicles per dwelling was recorded, at 12.7.[6]

Geology

Wright is built on rhyodacite rocks from the Silurian period which are about 414 million years old. These rocks are part of the Deakin Volcanics.[7]
