William Clark Cowie (1849-1910)[1][2] was a Scottish engineer, mariner, and businessman who helped establish British North Borneo and was Chairman of the British North Borneo Company.

Born in Friockheim, Scotland, Cowie was engaged as engineer on a ship from Glasgow to Singapore in 1870.
