When the Sweet Turns Sour is a pseudo-posthumous album by the progressive rock band echolyn. The album is a compilation new songs, leftovers from the as the world sessions, remakes, and live tracks.

The album's title is wordplay on the Genesis song, "When the Sour Turns to Sweet," of which the band recorded a remake for the Magna Carta Genesis tribute album. Unfortunately, because the band was then under contract with Sony 550 Records, the label would not allow the use of the recording on the tribute album, "Supper's Ready."[2] "Another Day" and "Patchwork" are songs that were written for but ultimately not used for the as the world album. An acoustic version of the band's own "Meaning and the Moment" (from echolyn is included in the style of their acoustic EP ...and every blossom. The two live tracks are taken from the band's then-final performance at Progday '95. The remaining tracks are new songs written for the follow-up to as the world, but ultimately recorded for inclusion on this collection.
