War Telephone LLC, owned by OTT Communications, is a telephone company in West Virginia serving McDowell County.
The company's assets began with the original War Telephone Company, founded in 1937. It was acquired by Century Telephone Enterprises (now CenturyLink) in 1981. The company's assets were sold in 1985 to Colonial Telephone in Mississippi, which merged the company into McDowell Telephone Company, Inc., which became War Telephone Company.[1] The company later changed its name again to McDowell Telephone Company.
The original War Telephone Company, founded in 1937, remained with Century Telephone, becoming Century Telephone of West Virginia in 1986. The company, however, does not operate any lines in West Virginia.
In 2000, War Acquisition Corp. was formed, taking over the operations of McDowell Telephone and began doing business as War Telephone. In 2010, the company was purchased by Otelco and began doing business as OTT Communications.[2] In 2012, the company converted to a limited liability company under the name War Telephone LLC.
