Vijay Maurya is an Indian film actor, writer and director who works in Hindi and Marathi cinema. He debuts as a feature film director with Marathi movie Photocopy.[1]

Early life

Vijay Maurya was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Career

Theatre

Maurya began his career in theatre by enrolling in a workshop under Satyadev Dubey for acting. He was an integral part of Prithvi Theatre from 1993–2008. He has worked in 14 original plays which have had a total of over 2500 shows. Some of his plays include Meena Kumari, Airawat, Solah Saal Ka Aakash, Jungle Ke Paar, Laila, Sa Hi Besura. The play Sa Hi Besura[2] which came out in 2007 is still running with successful shows.

He's worked with Makrand Deshpande, Sudhir Pandey, Kay Kay Menon, Sanjna Kapoor among others.

Films

Maurya has acted in critically acclaimed movies like Nishikanth Kamath's Mumbai Meri Jaan[3] & Anurag Kashyap's[4] Black Friday.[5] He is also a screenplay writer and has won a National film award for the best original screenplay for writers for the movie Chillar Party along with Nitesh Tiwari and Vikas Bhal in the 59th National Film Awards.[6]

Commercials

Having directed over a 150 commercials, Maurya is known for his witty sense of humour and has directed commercials for a number of Indian and International brands. He continues to work as an ad-film director along with his film commitments.

Feature Film Direction

Vijay Maurya is debuting as a feature film director with a Marathi film Photocopy[1] produced by well known playback singer Neha Rajpal under her maiden production banner "Neha Rajpal Productions".[7][8][9] Maurya wrote the screenplay of the film with award winning writer Yogesh Vinayak Joshi. Photocopy is slated for release in 2016[10][11][7][9][1]
