Vasilyevo (Russian: Васи́льево; Tatar: Васильево) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) in Zelenodolsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, located about 19 kilometers (12 mi) east of Zelenodolsk on the left bank of the Volga River, on the shore of the Kuybyshev Reservoir. Population: 16,953 (2010 Census);[3] 16,846 (2002 Census);[7] 18,776 (1989 Census).[8]

History

It was established in 1693 and was granted urban-type settlement status on May 21, 1928.[5]

Economy and infrastructure

There are three schools, one hospital, one church, and two mosques in Vasilyevo. There are also two health centers, a hospital, and several dental clinics.

Vasilyevo serves as a railway station on the Kazan–Zelenodolsk branch.

Russian and Tatar languages are widely spoken in Vasilyevo. Russian is understood by practically all the population, apart from some older Tatars. Tatar is widely spoken mainly by Tatars.
