Umeå School of Architecture (abbreviated UMA) was founded in 2009 as the fourth academic school in Sweden to provide a professional degree in architecture. It is part of Umeå University. Unlike the other Architectural Schools in Sweden, UMA has a spoken policy of sustainable development and integrated design, and aims to grow into "an international laboratory of experimental architectural development."^[1] The Danish architect Peter Kjaer is appointed rector for the school.

The five-year architectural programme started in fall 2009 at provisionary premises in central Umeå, but could before fall 2010 move to a new building by Danish architect firm Henning Larsen Architects,^[2] close to the Umeå Institute of Design and the Umeå Academy of Fine Arts at the Umeå Arts Campus.^[3] Master's degree programs will start in fall 2010.

Master Programmes

There are two Master's programmes in Sustainable Architecture Production and Immediate Architectural Intervention, leading to a Master's degree (120 credits) - in English

Architecture education in Sweden

Other Swedish architecture schools are hosted by The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Chalmers in Gothenburg and Lund Institute of Technology.
