Robert "Trey" Flowers III[1] (born August 16, 1993) is an American football defensive end for the New England Patriots of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Arkansas.

Early years

Flowers attended Columbia High School in Huntsville, Alabama.[2] He was ranked by Rivals.com as a three-star recruit.[3] He originally committed to Georgia Tech to play college football but changed to the University of Arkansas.[4] Flowers also played basketball in high school.

College career

Flowers played in all 13 games with three starts as a true freshman in 2011. He had 28 tackles and one sack. As a sophomore in 2012, he started all 13 games, recording 50 tackles and six sacks. Flowers started 11 games as a junior in 2013, missing one due to injury. He finished the year with 44 tackles and five sacks.[5] After he considered entering the 2014 NFL Draft, Flowers returned to Arkansas for his senior season in 2014.[6][7][8]

Professional career

2015 season

Projected as a third-round draft pick[9][10] in the 2015 NFL draft, Flowers was drafted with the second pick of the fourth round, the 101st overall selection, by the New England Patriots. In the first preseason game against the Packers, Flowers sacked Aaron Rodgers but later left the game with a shoulder injury.[11] Flowers made the Patriots 53-man roster but was only active for one game before being placed on injured reserve on December 1, 2015.[12]

2016 season

Flowers recorded his first NFL sacks against Bills in Week 8 on Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel while tacking on five tackles. The following game against the Seahawks he recorded another two sacks against Russell Wilson in a 24-31 loss.
