Plot

Kate & Justin are expecting a child and they come home to find that a new couple has moved in downstairs. At first, Kate & Justin do not see the new people just their shoes which they leave outside of their front door. Eventually Kate & Justin meet the new couple, Jon & Teresa and to their surprise, Teresa is pregnant as well. Kate & Justin invite Jon & Teresa for dinner. Justin and Kate do not change a hallway light before the couple arrive and eventually forget about it. When Jon and Teresa come, Teresa starts drinking whenever Jon looks away and it is revealed that Kate & Justin did not want to have a child & waited ten years until they finally decided to while Jon & Teresa struggled for 7 years to have a child. Teresa was upset that Kate got pregnant as quickly as she did while she had to struggle for so long with her older husband. Eventually, Teresa says she doesn't feel well and gets up to leave. In a hurry to leave, she rushes through the dark hallway and when the front door is opened, she trips over the cat and falls down the stairs losing her baby.

After losing her baby, "Peter," Kate & Justin go to console the grieving couple and they end up in a fight with Teresa screaming that Kate does not deserve "that thing." A few days later they receive a note stating that the couple has left and will return when they can truly be happy for Kate & Justin.

Kate gives birth and they name the baby, "Billy." Not too long after Jon & Teresa return and seem to be in good spirits even offering to babysit Billy. Kate & Teresa begin spending time together and eventually Kate leaves Teresa to watch over Billy. When Kate leaves to go visit her dead brothers grave, Teresa leaves the house with Billy. Every Time Kate leaves the house Teresa & Jon would go out with Billy.

Kate & Justin go the Jon & Teresa's apartment for dinner. Kate brings the baby monitor and can here someone breathing. She rushes upstairs to find the bath tub running over. Over the next few days, Kate begins to grow more and more suspicious about the couples behaviour. Kate leaves Billy with Teresa and then goes back to her apartment to spy on her. Teresa take pictures of Billy on the ground and even tries to breastfeed him. Appalled, Kate breaks into Teresa's apartment and finds the camera with photos of Billy on it including photos of Jon & Teresa in public holding Billy and a room fitted for a child with a picture of Jon & Teresa holding Billy in their arms. Kate runs out and later when drags Justin into the couples apartment only to find that everything is no longer there.

Kate now on the verge of a complete breakdown asks Justin to move to a new apartment, Justin agrees and stays with her and works at home until the day before moving when he leaves to go into work for two hours. He gives Kate the milk while he is leaving and tells her to call the moving van for tomorrow. When Justin reaches to work he finds that there was no urgent meeting and it was instead a prank call. He receives an email from Kate saying she sorry and he rushes home to find that Kate has killed herself and that the baby was thrown into the lake nearby and the cat is missing. Heartbroken everyone leaves the home to move on with their lives.

Jon & Teresa move away to live with their new baby Peter.
