The Leisure Seeker is an Italian-French road movie directed by Paolo Virzì, which is also his first full English-language film, the film based on 2009 novel written with the same name by the author Michael Zadoorian. It stars Donald Sutherland and Helen Mirren, reunited them since the 1990 film Bethune: The Making of a Hero.[1] The film is expected to release in 2017.[2]

Plot

A couple, John and Ella, embarks on a twilight-years road trip from Boston to Florida in a vintage Winnebago.

Development

The film reunited director Paolo Virzì with producers Fabrizio Donvito, Benedetto Habib, and Marco Cohen from the Indiana Production Company, since their collaboration in Human Capital and Like Crazy which also won many festival awards. The film is also the director's first try to break the international market.

Sutherland and Mirren was previously collaborated as a married couples in the Phillip Borsos directed China-set saga, Bethune: The Making of a Hero,[3] this is their reunion together after 27 years.

Filming

Principal photography for the film begin in July 2016, where crew’s cars damaged on set in Atlanta,[4] there are also many casting call for extras in this place,[5] filming also takes place in Dunwoody, Georgia.

Release

The film, based on a novel by Michael Zadoorian, is being sold at Cannes by BAC Films, which will also handle international sales and distribute the movie in France, while CAA will co-represent North American rights.[6]
