The Dinner is an upcoming American drama thriller film directed and written by Oren Moverman, based on the Dutch novel of same name by Herman Koch. The film stars Richard Gere, Steve Coogan, Laura Linney, Rebecca Hall, Chloë Sevigny, and Charlie Plummer.

On September 19, 2013, it was announced that Cate Blanchett would make her directorial debut with the thriller film adaptation of the Dutch novel The Dinner by Herman Koch, which was scripted by Oren Moverman. Caldecot Chubb was attached as producer on the film for his ChubbCo Film banner.[4] Olga Segura and Eva Maria Daniels are attached as Executive Producers and helped with the development of this project.[4]

Later in January 2016, it was announced that Moverman would also direct the film. Along with Chubb, Lawrence Inglee, Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev would also be the producers of the film for Code Red, ChubbCo and Blackbird. Code Red would also fully finance the film and Protagonist Pictures would handle international sales.[1]

Principal photography on the film began on January 21, 2016, in Dobbs Ferry, New York.[5][6] Later filming began in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where it took place at the Gettysburg National Military Park.[7]

In May 2016, The Orchard acquired distribution rights to the film.[8]
