Tenja

Location of Tenja in Croatia

Tenja is a village in eastern Slavonia, Croatia, located just southeast of Osijek. The population is 7,376.[1]

History

From March 1942. to August 1942. this village held the only ghetto for Jews in the Independent State of Croatia.[2] The name "ghetto" does not signify medival Jewish ghetto. In the Encyclopedia of the Holocaust it's referred to as the concentration camp Tenje.[3] According to the Humanitarian Law Center in July 1991 the Serbian Volunteer Guard killed at least 29 people and expelled over 2,900 non-Serbs.[4]
