Teikyo School United Kingdom

Teikyo School United Kingdom (帝京ロンドン学園高等部, Teikyō Rondon Gakuen Kōtōbu, "Teikyo London Academy High School Division") is a Japanese school in the Wexham community in South Bucks, Buckinghamshire, England, in proximity to London.^[1] It is a boarding school for students aged 15-18.^[2] It is affiliated with Teikyo University, and therefore is a Shiritsu zaigai kyoiku shisetsu (私立在外教育施設) or an overseas branch of a Japanese private school.^[3]

History

The school opened in April 1989.^[4]

As of 2013 had 72 students, all from Japan, including 48 boys and 24 girls. Of them, 44 boys and 17 girls are boarders.^[5]

Campus

The campus is located north of Slough,^[5] and west of London. It is in proximity to Eton College and Windsor Castle. The school includes an indoor swimming pool, an IT room, a theatre, and a turfed ground. Its students live in single-room dormitories.^[6]

The schools serve different grade/year levels. The Nishiyamato and Seigakuin schools do not have senior high school/sixth form students, while other overseas private school branches do.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) classifies almost all of these schools as shiritsu zaigai kyōiku shisetsu (overseas branches of Japanese private schools). The Shanghai Japanese School is classified by MEXT as nihonjin gakkō (Japanese international school) as it is operated by a Japanese association. At the Liceo Mexicano Japonés (LMJ) in Mexico City, only the Mexican program offers senior high school, while its Japanese program ends at junior high school; therefore LMJ not included on this list.

Shiritsu zaigai kyōiku shisetsu are overseas branches of Japanese schools; these are boarding and day schools and the only Japanese educational schools in Europe which provide sixth form/senior high school level education. Nihonjin gakkō are day schools operated by Japanese associations and only include primary and junior high school levels.
