Taguig Renegade Drum and Lyre Corps

Taguig Renegade DLC (TR) was founded on 1998 in Tenement Elementary School - Annex (currently Kapitan Eddie T. Reyes Integrated School) in Barangay Pinagsama Village, Taguig City, Philippines. The corps was founded by Benedict Gualvez, a grade school teacher from the same school, and was handled by Noel Dela Cruz when Benedict Gualvez suffered an unexplained death during sleep (heart attack or stroke). Noel Dela Cruz led the corps for about a month and then decided to pass on the responsibility as Band Master to his cousin Joseph Querubin (also the Band Master of Maybunga Drum and Lyre Corps in Barangay Maybunga, Pasig City) because of plans to work abroad.

Active Years

TR's first competition was in Barangay Bagong Ilog Pasig City barangay fiesta. The corps was composed of students from grades three to six. They competed with other corps whose members were 15 years old and above. TR was not expecting to win the competition, but luckily they were announced as the third placer. Seven months later, TR joined another competition in the Barangay Ugong Pasig City barangay fiesta. TR joined Class B and was crowned as the champion. Sta. Rosa Laguna DLC took the second place and Sagad Escapades DLC took the third place. Since then TR joined various competitions all over the Metro Manila. They have earned several minor and major prizes and was frequently invited for fiesta celebrations and some musical events.

In 2000, TR joined the very first National Drum and Lyre Competition, organized by the Drum and Lyre Corps Association of the Philippines Inc. (DLCAPI). Held in Marikina City and was crowned as the champion. In the next year's national DLC competition, TR was named "Back-to-Back Champion", and in the third year, the corps was still strong and was named "Grand Slam Champion". After that year, the group was disbanded due to the members' need to focus on their studies and personal lives. After the third competition, DLCAPI was no longer active, and one of its officers pursued another competition for the fourth time. Most of the corps did not join the said competition. TR supposedly would not be joining. However; they have to compete as the defending champion. TR prepared two days before the event and the championship was taken by Mayundon DLC from Los Baños, Laguna. TR placed second after Mayundon DLC. The said competition was not an official National DLC competition, according to DLCAPI.

After the fourth National Competition, TR joined the Barangay Ugong DLC competition. During which more than one point was deducted from its score. TR did not make it to the top three, due to exceeding the maximum members required. The last competition TR joined was in Barangay Bagong Ilog, in which it placed third, with QCHS Warriors DLC taking the championship.

TR had a reunion project last February 2009, in which they collaborated with Maybunga DLC members and QCHS Warriors DLC's five elite color guards. The combined corps placed third in the Barangay Butting DLC competition, while Sinag Katipunan DLC took first place, and Gallant 88 DLC took second. Prior to that, the reunion corps also joined the Taguig City DLC competition and took second place, although there was controversy that it supposedly should have taken the championship but, according to the judges, failed to because the members did not have a gala uniform.
