Yoongi is the main rapper of the South Korean boy group BTS, managed under Big Hit Entertainment. In August 2016, he released his first solo mixtape Agust D under the name of Agust D, featuring two solo music videos "Agust D" and "Give it to me" respectively. Suga through his mixtape has addressed the cost of success, highlighting controversial topics in Korea when speaking of his own mental health in an attempt to aid listeners in their own situations.

On June 13, 2013, Suga made his debut as a member of BTS on Mnet's M! Countdown with the track "No More Dream" from their debut single album 2 Cool 4 Skool.[3][4] He has produced and written lyrics for a variety of tracks on all of BTS's albums.

On December 9, 2013, during their promotions in Japan, Suga was diagnosed with appendicitis and had to be flown back to Korea to receive surgery. Due to his surgery, Suga was therefore unable to participate in the 2014 Idol Star Athletics Championships, BTS's SBS Gayo Daejeon and MBC Gayo Daejejeon year-end performances.[5]

Solo work

His first mixtape was issued on August 16, 2016 under the name Agust D, combining his stage name spelled backwards with the initials of "D-Town", which is the name of his old hiphop crew in Daegu.[6] Two tracks from his mixtape, "Agust D" and "give it to me" have music videos released on YouTube, with the former reaching over 1 million views within 12 hours.[7] He was also listed as one of the weekly Artists to Watch by TIDAL Rising on September 14, 2016.
