Straight Checkn 'Em is the second studio album by American rap group Compton's Most Wanted, released July 16, 1991 on Orpheus Records. It peaked at number 23 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and at number 92 on the Billboard 200.[3]

Along with a single, a music video was produced for the song, "Straight Checkn 'Em". The song, "Growin' Up in the Hood", was originally heard in the film, Boyz n the Hood, and was also released as a single and a music video to promote the film's soundtrack.

Background

The album contained one of the group's most successful songs, "Growin' Up in the Hood," which also appeared on the Boyz n the Hood soundtrack. The first part for the famous "Def Wish" series (I-IV) appears in Straight Checkn 'Em. Just like their previous album It's a Compton Thang, this album was entirely produced by DJ Slip and The Unknown DJ. Tha Chill was unable to appear in this album because he was sentenced to prison some months before the recording, the only song he was able to appear was "Growin' Up in the Hood".
