Steve Kuhn (born 1969) is an American financial executive with over 20 years of experience. He previously worked at Pine River Capital Management LP as Partner and Co-CIO.[1] Kuhn has previously held positions at Cargill, Citadel LLC and Goldman Sachs.[2]

Early Life and Education

Steve Kuhn matriculated at Harvard and studied game theory, statistics, and microeconomics, earning his bachelor's degree in economics with honors in 1991.[3]

Career

After completing his degree in 1991, Steve Kuhn accepted a position with Cargill as a mortgage-backed securities trader.[4] He later joined Citadel Investment Group as a trader of Japanese convertible bonds. After leaving Citadel, he transitioned to Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where he became a vice president and portfolio manager.[5][6]

In 2008, Steve Kuhn joined Pine River Capital Management as the head of Fixed Income Trading.[7][8] Steve Kuhn received full partner status at Pine River in 2009.[1] Kuhn has found success in dealing subprime mortgage-backed securities.[7]

Under Kuhn’s leadership, in 2009 the Pine River Fixed Income fund achieved a return of 93%.[9][10] The Pine River Fixed Income Fund was ranked second in Bloomberg’s 100 top performing hedge funds in 2013.[11]
