Srebrenica: a 'safe' area

Srebrenica: a ‘safe’ area is a 2002 report by the Netherlands Institute for War Documentation (NIOD) concerning the Srebrenica Massacre. The report took seven years to finalize. The size of the report is "some four thousand pages".[1] The report is also referred to as the NIOD report.[2]

It resulted in the resignation of the Second cabinet of Wim Kok, on 16 April 2002 six days after the release of the report.[3] The cabinet was “asked to stay as a caretaker government until a new administration [was] formed after elections”.[4]

The report has been referred to by international media.[3][5][2][6]

Criticism

The Institute for War and Peace Reporting has labelled the report "controversial".[7]
