Shani Tarashaj is a Swiss footballer who currently plays as a midfielder for German club Frankfurt, on loan from English club Everton.[1] He was a member of the Swiss squad at UEFA Euro 2016.

Club career

Tarashaj was born 7 February 1995 in Hausen am Albis, Switzerland and has Albanian parents from Prizren, Kosovo. He grew up in youth teams of Grasshopper Club Zürich.[2] Tarashaj made his Swiss Super League debut at 2 August 2014 against FC Sion. He replaced Alexander Merkel after 73 minutes in a goalless draw.[3] After a relatively disappointing first season as a professional, Tarashaj enjoyed a fine start to the 2015/16 season, scoring 5 goals in his first 4 games. This included two braces against FC Zurich and FC Lugano, respectively. On 22 September 2015, Grasshopper confirmed that Tarashaj had renewed his contract, which had been due to expire in the summer of 2016, until 2019.

On 7 January 2016, Tarashaj joined Everton on four-and-a-half year deal. He was loaned back to Grasshopper, until the end of the season so that he could complete his national service.[4]

On 31 August 2016, Everton announced that Tarashaj was loaned to German club Eintracht Frankfurt for one season.[5]

International career

Albania's coach Gianni de Biasi declared to the media in August 2015 that Tarashaj will be an important player for Albania in the future and that he has him in his plans.[6]

On 25 March 2016, Tarashaj made his debut for Switzerland. He was selected for the 23 men Switzerland national team squad in UEFA Euro 2016.
