Shahriyar Kabir (Bengali: শাহরিয়ার কবীর) is a Bangladeshi author and journalist. He has been writing fiction books for children for decades.

Career

Shahriyar is a human rights activist.[2] He is the head of the Nirmul Committee. He has been arrested on November 22, 2001.[1] He was later released on bail. But he was arrested again on December 2002.[2] The arrest was declared illegal by a Division Bench of the Bangladesh High Court on 4 January 2003.[2]

On August 28, 2000 Shahriyar was attacked on the way home from Dhaka University and stabbed in the face and right hand.[1]

Shahriyar was a freedom fighter under Sector Nine during the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.[1]
