Schalk Willem 'Hond' van der Merwe is a South African rugby union player, currently playing with the Kings in Super Rugby. He previously played for the Golden Lions and Free State Cheetahs in domestic South African rugby, for the Lions in Super Rugby and for Montpellier in the French Top 14.[1] His usual position is prop.

He joined the Golden Lions prior to the 2014 season.[2] He was included in the Lions squad for the 2014 Super Rugby season[3] and made his debut in a 21–20 victory over the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.[4][5]
