Satish Chander Dhawan Government College For Boys

Satish Chander Dhawan Government College Ludhiana is an educational institution which was set up in Ludhiana City of Undivided British Punjab in the year 1920. The college as of now offers various courses in Humanities, Commerce and Science for graduation and post graduation level studies.

History of college

On persistent demand of the eminent citizens of Ludhiana City, a survey for setting up a college was conducted by the Calcutta University in 1918. The report was submitted in 1920 and the college was set up the same year. The college began as an intermediate college providing F.A. and F.Sc. courses. The B.A./B.Sc. courses began in 1932. Over the years the college diversified in its areas of imparting education and courses in commerce (B.Com. I/II/III), B.Sc. Vocational Education in Industrial Microbiology and seven Postgraduate departments have been added, making this college a kind of a small university in itself.

The college was renamed in honor of space scientist Sh. Satish Chander Dhawan.

The college has an area of 51 acres (210,000 m2). It has a faculty of 130 teachers and more than 4000 students on its rolls. The college also conducts an evening shift for the benefit of serving/working student.
